As a transdiciplinary, conceptual and project-based artist, Xuan chooses the media that best fits the concept of each project: animated film, drawing, interactive installation, painting, graphic narrative, collage, and combinations between them. Her art work have been exhibited in solo and group shows in galleries, museums and film festivals nationally and internationally. Her paintings were included in public art collections such as the City of Albuquerque Public Art Collection in 2009 and 2011. Her most recent film "Out" received a New Vision's Award from the state of New Mexico and the 1st prize at "Trafficked Identity", Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival and Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women. Her film Gray won Friends of the Art prize (1st prize) from the University of New Mexico Art Museum and the Honorable Mention (3rd place) from the 26th Tallahassee International Exhibition at Florida State University Museum of Fine Arts. Her narrative story "Apple" was in the final list of "Narrative Under Thirty" contest organized by Narrative Magazine. Combining her engineering background with studio work, enabled her to illustrate a science book titled Wonders of Nuclear Fusion by Neal Singer (ISBN: 0826347789). She is interested in the connections between science, art, and design. She received her M.F.A. with distinction from the Art and Art History Department at the University of New Mexico (UNM), Albuquerque. While at UNM she received the Clyde A. and Elizabeth R. Hill Endowed Scholarship in 2009 and 2010. |
